Resume Writing Tips

The thought of writing a resume intimidates almost anyone. It’s difficult to know where to start or what to include. It can seem like an insurmountable task. Here are some tips that helps you to write a winning resume.

What is the most common resume mistake made by job hunters?
Leaving out their Job Objective! If you don’t show a sense of direction, employers won’t be interested. Having a clearly stated goal doesn’t have to confine you if it’s stated well.

Determine your job search objective prior to writing the resume:

Once you have determined your objective, you can structure the content of your resume around that objective. Think of your objective as the bull’s-eye to focus your resume on hitting. If you write your resume without having a clear objective in mind, it will likely come across as unfocused to those that read it. Take the time before you start your resume to form a clear objective. If you have  single resume and want to aplly for several jobs then you must modify your resume according to the nature of the job.

Your Objectives:

Objective line is usually the first step  from where you start writing your resume. Here it is very important that you write some unique objectives. Do not use the objective lines that almost everyone write in their resume. It is not necessary that you write some extra ordinary objectives your objectives should be precise, simple and unique.

Think your resume as a marketing tool:

Think of yourself as a product, potential employers as your customers, and your resume as a brochure about you. Market yourself through your resume. What are your features and benefits? What makes you unique? Make sure to convey this information in your resume.

Use your resume to obtain an interview, not a job:

You don’t need to go into detail about every accomplishment. Strive to be clear and concise. The purpose of your resume is to generate enough interest in you to have an employer contact you for an interview. Use the interview to provide a more detailed explanation of your accomplishments and to land a job offer.

Use bulleted sentences:

In the body of your resume, use bullets with short sentences rather than lengthy paragraphs. Resumes are read quickly. This bulleted sentence format makes it easier for someone to quickly scan your resume and still absorb it.

For Experienced And Non Experienced :

If the persons  having good experience of the market  then they should write their experience prior to their qualification in the resume.

For those who don’t have relevant or any experience then they must write their education qualification first. They must write about their projects that they done during their study, but don’t write lengthy paragraphs as i mention above. They can also write down about some major subjects as well include only those subjects that they think, will helpful for the job.

Lead with your strengths:

Since resumes are typically reviewed in 30 seconds, take the time to determine which bullets most strongly support your job search objective. Put those strong points (skills) first where they are more appropriate to be read and also write down some others as well if you got  e.g

  • Ms Office
  • Oracle

But only write about those whom you have knowledge about. Because in interview employers are very keen to know about your skills and strengths.

No fancy designs:

Do not use a colored background, fancy fonts or images on your resume. Sure, you might think that the little flowers will cheer up the document, but other people might just throw it away at the sight.

Make your resume readable:

Leave white space . Use a font size no smaller than 10 point. Limit the length of your resume to 1-2 pages. Remember, resumes are reviewed quickly. Help the reader to scan your resume efficiently and effectively.

Don’t forget the basics

The first thing on your resume should be your name. It should be bold and with a larger font than the rest of the text. Make sure that your contact details are clearly listed. Secondly, both the name and contact details should be included on all the pages of the resume (if you have more than one). And your personal information  like date of birth, father name should be at the end of your resume.
